| + (6/10/2013) United Drops Season Finale
United 99′s final Spring WAGS game was Sunday against the Herndon Zephyr. Based on the days earlier results, this game had no bearing on the final standings for United. The game got off to a late start, being delayed by the weather. Once it got underway, United pressed forward with their possession game, trying to unlock Herndon’s defensive tactics. United had several chances in the first half, but could not find the net. Herndon offered some counter attacks, but were unable to mount any serious threats and the first half ended up scoreless. In the second half, United dialed up their game and was able to maintain possession in the attacking half for nearly the entire 35 minutes. They had several shots that went just wide, and hit the crossbar once. They pressured Herndon repeatedly with quality shots and if it weren’t for some great play by the Herndon keeper, would have been up 4 or 5 goals. Herndon was not able to counter attack at all in the second half, and only had possession in United’s half when United brought the ball back and lost it. This happened only twice, but on one of those occasions Herndon was able to capitalize on an erroneous back pass and was able to score. United continued to pressure to try to equalize, but were unable to score and the game ended up 0-1. |

| + (5/28/13) Virginian Tournament Recap
United took part in the Virginian Elite Showcase Soccer Tournament over the holiday weekend, playing in the Virginian Cup bracket. United’s first opponent was PWSI Red, a top team in Virginia that United had not played since U9. Going into the match, United knew that it was probably going to be their toughest opponent and it proved to be true. United got on the board early when Katie was taken down in the box and Mallory calmly put the PK into the corner of the net. Both teams battled back and forth, and PWSI got an equalizer off of a shot that Jessica seemed to have covered, but an unfortunate deflection off of one the defenders resulted in a goal. The first half ended all square at 1-1. The second have action was much the same, with Eliana (PWSI’s Region I ODP keeper) making a fantastic save to knock Rory’s shot over the crossbar. PWSI pressured United consistently, and made United work hard for every bit of possession. Late in the second half PWSI was able to grab the lead when a United defender was knocked to the ground, leaving one of the PWSI attackers unmarked at the top of the box, where she was able to find the corner with a sharply struck shot. United’s second game was against Arlington Chaos Red and they were able to move the ball around a little better and control the game. Rory started of the scoring with a nice angled shot from the edge of the box, and the teams went into halftime with United up 1-0. The second half was much like the first, and Katie was able to add to the total with a scorching free kick from the side of the 18. The game ended up 2-0 for United. The final game on Sunday was against the NVSC Jr Majestics, and would be a rematch from the previous week’s WAGS game that United won 2-0. This game was much closer than last week, as United was just a little bit off and was not able to stretch the field as they did before. Both teams had some quality chances but the score was still 0-0 until late in the game when Layne was able to score from about 15 yards out. |
| + (5/19/2013) United Dominate Majestics
With the Virginian Tournament coming up, United put their best foot forward and played some of their best soccer on Sunday, beating the NVSC Jr Majestics 2-0. From the first whistle, United was able to dominate the time of possession and was rewarded with numerous quality chances. They moved the ball well, and used the entire width of the field to keep the Majestics on their heels. The defense came up big when they needed to and were able to shut the door any time the Majestics tried to mount an attack. |
